The successful trial conducted by Fakeeh University Hospital marks a significant milestone as the first medication delivery via drones in the Middle East. This revolutionary initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader vision to strengthen its global competitiveness by adopting advanced technologies across vital sectors, including healthcare. The trial, which took place within the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), underscores the city’s commitment to becoming a hub for smart applications and innovative solutions. By leveraging drones to deliver medication, Fakeeh University Hospital is pioneering a game-changing approach to healthcare accessibility and efficiency in the region.

This milestone is closely tied to the objectives of the Dubai Programme to Enable Drone Transportation, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The program seeks to enhance transportation efficiency and support innovation by establishing advanced infrastructure and dedicated testing areas for drone technology. Through the collaborative efforts of the Dubai Future Foundation, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), the trial successfully transported medication within a 10-kilometer radius, from the hospital to a patient’s home in the Cedre Villas community at DSO.
Fakeeh University Hospital’s initiative represents a bold leap forward in integrating drone technology into healthcare. The advantages of this approach are numerous: faster response times for delivering life-saving medications, elimination of geographical barriers, and enhanced reliability in providing medical supplies. Moreover, drones offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional delivery methods, significantly reducing carbon emissions and supporting the UAE’s commitment to
sustainability. The inclusion of advanced safety features, such as collision avoidance systems and real-time monitoring, ensures secure and efficient delivery, further boosting patient confidence in this innovation.
This achievement also reflects Fakeeh University Hospital’s longstanding dedication to technological advancement and digital transformation. By embracing cutting-edge solutions, the hospital continues to set new standards for healthcare delivery in the UAE and the wider region. Dr. Fatih Mehmet Gul, CEO of Fakeeh University Hospital, highlighted the historic nature of this initiative, emphasizing its role in shaping the future of healthcare while maintaining the hospital’s mission to enhance community well-being. This innovative leap not only addresses current healthcare challenges but also establishes a roadmap for future advancements in medical logistics.
As Dubai leads the way in integrating drone technology into essential sectors, the success of this trial sets the stage for wider adoption across the UAE. By pushing the boundaries of innovation, Fakeeh University Hospital inspires other healthcare institutions to embrace transformative technologies, paving the way for a smarter, more connected, and accessible healthcare ecosystem.
